Maintaining clean, reliable data in a utility geodatabase is no easy task—especially with the increasing complexity of modern utility networks. That’s why we’re excited to announce a major update to GeoData Sentry, fully compatible with ArcGIS Pro 3.x and PostgreSQL environments.
This release includes three new tests designed to catch some of the most elusive and impactful data errors in a Utility Network:
Junction-to-Edge Valence Test
This test checks whether junction features like valves, switches, or risers are connected to the correct number of edges. If the number of connected lines doesn’t match the expected valence, it’s flagged as an error.
Why it matters: Missing splits or incorrect connections can cause Subnetwork controllers to misbehave or traces to fail entirely. The test also includes an option to ensure the junction is at the start or end of a line—for example, risers should typically appear at the end of a service line and have a valence of 1.
Vertex-to-Vertex Overlap Detection
This test identifies where two or more edge features share overlapping vertices—often at precise X, Y locations—indicating potential Subnetwork crossover.
To refine results, users can apply an attribute filter such as FEEDERID, PressureZone, or CP System. If overlapping edges have different values in that field, it’s a strong signal that the crossover is unintentional and should be corrected.
Attribute-Filtered Unique Test
A common challenge with uniqueness tests is overflagging, especially when an attribute is only meant to be unique under certain conditions. This enhancement allows users to filter the uniqueness test by attribute value.
For example, you may only want to enforce a unique service point ID for features marked “In Service” and ignore proposed or abandoned ones. Now you can, which means fewer false positives and cleaner reporting.
These new features build on GeoData Sentry’s mission: to automate quality control and help GIS teams keep their data accurate, traceable, and reliable.
