Duplicate Geometry and Vertex Validation

Ensuring a smooth transition to the Utility Network

Preparing for a migration to the Utility Network? It’s crucial to understand that the geometry of your source data plays a significant role in ensuring a smooth transition. Geodata Sentry is here to help you navigate this process effectively!

Duplicate Geometry Validation is an essential step in identifying invalid geometries within your source data. This test detects duplicated features both within a single feature class and between multiple feature classes. It’s important to rectify these stacked features before migrating the data to the Utility Network. If these issues are not addressed in the source data, they will be transferred to the Utility Network as Dirty Areas, which must be cleaned up before the network topology can be established and subnetworks created.

Duplicate Vertex Validation is equally critical. This test identifies vertices that are exact or almost exact duplicates. If not detected and corrected in the source data, these geometry issues will migrate to the Utility Network, resulting in Dirty Areas that require correction before creating subnetworks.

Detecting and correcting these errors in the source data is significantly more cost-effective than cleaning up Dirty Areas after migration. By leveraging your current editing environment, you can make corrections in a familiar system, ensuring a smoother transition to the Utility Network.
